In case you don’t know who she is, Bozoma Saint John is the Cheif Brand Officer for Uber. Prior to that position, she was a Marketing Executive at Apple Music. A proud immigrant of Ghanaian descent, living in the U.S. She was honored yesterday by the Africa America Institute with an award for Innovation and leadership. St. John took to Instagram to share a heart felt post about the night. Exemplifying what it means to be Afroriche in this modern day. A leader who is changing the perceptions of Africans and beating a path for its descendants in diaspora and the continent. Her Instagram handle is @badassboz and I could not agree more.
My parents proudly stood beside me last night as I received the Africa America Institute’s award for Innovation and Leadership. It was a full-circle moment, since His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo, The President of the Republic of Ghana received an award on behalf of the people of Ghana! My alma mater, Wesleyan University was firmly represented by Kofi Appenteng (President & CEO of AAI) and Scott Pierce (Chairman of the Board), as well as my own dad and my classmate, Vanessa Rodriguez! Surrounded by friends and family (including my aunt who flew from London!) to celebrate this incredible moment, I give thanks to God for continuing to allow me to exemplify the mission of AAI, which is to reveal the true contributions of Afro descendants to the world. I am a living, breathing, shining example that immigrants and their descendants do matter to the success of this great country. God bless America. And God bless Ghana.
